Midlife & Moving Past the Crisis

I think most moms will tell you that even though we know the scales can never be perfectly balanced, we can’t help but torture ourselves trying. It’s not just that we want to be great at everything, we feel like we’re supposed to be great at everything.

You’re a Collage, Not a Snapshot.

Ten years ago I left the competitive world of endurance racing and began my next greatest challenge: parenthood. After several years of triathlon and duathlon racing, I decided that my World Championship race in Edinburgh, Scotland would be the beginning of the end. I was nearing my 30th birthday and my body was at its…

TO DO: Make a Shorter List

I want to say yes to all the things. It’s a combination of being a people pleaser and getting genuinely excited when asked to get artsy with all sorts of people. I love making people happy, and I love designing creative experiences. But I’m a human being with limited time and resources who’s been trying…

Why I Let My Kids Fail

“You are the best person for this event bar none!!” -My Mom That’s my mom for ya. Always supportive, always encouraging… but not always right. My siblings and I still joke about the time my little sister tried out for the part of Annie in the school musical and instead got the part of a…

About Me

Hello! I am an artist, writer, and mom of two living in Miami, FL.

Midlife is a wild, beautiful, and complicated thing.

Let’s talk about it.

For real.

People told me having kids would change my life, but no one told me just how much or in what ways specifically. I suppose that part of the reason is that it’s different for everyone, but what I really think is that we are afraid to talk about it how hard it is. It’s hard in big ways, and it’s hard in really really small ways. Big or small, if these challenges are left unspoken they have the potential to unravel us from the inside out.

As a woman of the 21st century, I feel empowered to do it all, which is great until it leads to feelings of inadequacy when I can’t or just don’t want to.

I’m here to tell my stories and to listen to yours because I am damn sure that midlife is not a time for unraveling, it’s an opportunity to thrive and grow in ways we could never imagine.

About My Business

Speaking of growing in unexpected ways…

I used to always say Maker Monkey Workshop is inspired by my kids but truthfully, it’s equally inspired by my desire to lead a life that helps me balance my passion for art and entrepreneurship while being able to prioritize my family. It’s five years old and a work in progress at the same time. A lot of those work/life juggling experiences are the inspiration for this blog, but if you’re interested in learning more about Maker Monkey, feel free to read below or visit the website by clicking here.
